Why I Closed My Email List to Free Subscribers

As of November 27, 2024, I closed my email list to the public. The folks who joined before that date will remain on my list until they unsubscribe or are removed for non-engagement.

I am focused on building my client list and my email marketing will be directed towards my existing and past clients to help them get the most from their investments.

Why I Closed My Email List

This decision is something I've been thinking about for over a year and is probably long overdue. It was inspired by Dani Gardner AKA The Quiet Marketer. She explains her reasons in this post and talks about how her sales skyrocketed after making this change.

This post is publishing the same day I'm taking down my free opt-in form but I don't need a bunch of proof to know it's the right decision. Here are a few reasons I'm making this change.

I'm Saving My Energy for More Long Form Content

Not being able to join my email list doesn't mean you can't consume my content. This site has over 11 years worth of content and lessons from my journey as a business owner and the things I've helped clients through. There's also my YouTube channel and my podcast which I'm reviving with new episodes for the first time in 2.5 years. I'm more excited than ever about creating freely accessible content and some of the time and energy previously spent on writing tons of emails and 'launching' will go towards new content.

The Cost of Growing a Free Email List is Rising

In the past year almost every email platform you can name has raised their prices. As a service provider, I don't need to build an email list of thousands. I would rather attract the right people with content and allow you to stalk my content as long as you need to in order to build the confidence that I'm the right person to help you. And I don't feel the need to pay for folks who will sit on an email list for years without taking action.

Hi Kronda, Sorry to ghost you. I've been on a deep dive down the rabbit hole of your blog and am loving all that I see there. No matter what happens with this specific project, you have a super-fan on your hands already :-)

We encourage binging around here. 🙂

Buyers Are More Likely to Buy

It's so easy to take our eye of the prize and get caught up in the minutiae of marketing. If you're not careful, you'll find yourself obsessing over followers, likes, and comments and forget the real goal - getting clients and customers so you can stay in business.

It's easier to sell new offers to previous buyers. I learned this in a big way when I released our CRM to Sales offer to a tiny list of past clients and did almost $80k in revenue in Q4 of 2022.

When the primary way to work with us was a $5000/month retainer, it made sense to build a list because that kind of commitment requires a high level of trust. But now our retainer is much more accessible at $1500 / month and there are number of ways to experience working with us with little to no risk.

People Love to Not Pay Black Women

It's an unfortunate reality that Black women are still paid less than white women or men and being in business for yourself doesn't negate this fact. Racism and entitlement to Black women's free labor are the DNA the United States was built on and it means that consciously or not, people will jump through a lot of hoops in order NOT to pay us. The Doing Business While Black episode of my podcast is still sadly relevant in 2024.

I Want to Help People Who Are Ready

I'm happiest when I show up to office hours or client strategy calls, we map out a plan and then make it happen, and clients get to enjoy the results.-more clarity, calendar space, mental peace, and yes, revenue.

When you're ready to be part of that process, I welcome you to take action and join us in whatever way makes sense for you.

In the meantime, you can follow me on any of these platforms:

Should You Close Your Email List?

That depends. This strategy doesn't make sense for everyone, but I could not be more excited to hit publish on this post, redirect my lead magnet to this page and get back to serving my clients and helping them get amazing results.

If you want to chat about it, join Automation Club and let's discuss!

You sure can. Go here to tell me about yourself and book a call.
